Rockford Freshman Center

The Rockford Freshman Center has approximately 623 9th grade students and 70 staff members. The Freshman Center was built in 1972 as the original junior high school and became the 9th grade building in 2000. RFC was renovated in 2010 and security vestibules and other security measures were added in 2015. The Freshman Center is a Blue Ribbon Exemplary School and is fully accredited by AdvancEd. Special programs at the Freshman Center include Capturing Kids’ Hearts, Renaissance, and the Rockford Leo Club.

Rockford High School

Rockford High School has approximately 1910 students in grades 10-12 and 165 staff members. RHS was built in 1992, renovated in 2010, and security vestibules and other security measures were added in 2015. Rockford High School is a Blue Ribbon Exemplary School, an Advanced Placement Achievement District, ranked among the top 500 high schools in America by Newsweek, and is accredited by AdvancEd. Special programs at Rockford High School include home to the 9-12 Autism Spectrum Disorder and Cognitive Impaired programs, Self-Contained Region 1 resource room, Capturing Kids’ Hearts, Teen Leadership, concurrent enrollment with Ferris State University, dual enrollment, and the Community Ed Child Development lab.

River Valley Academy

River Valley Academy serves the community of Rockford by providing an alternative path to graduation for students.  River Valley Academy teachers work with Rockford High School teachers to plan instruction and common formative assessments, ro ensure all Rockford students meet RPS Priority Standards. Students work at their own pace to master teacher directed content, and can therefore catch up on credits, or accelerate progress toward the 27.5 credits required to earn a Rockford High School diploma and graduate early. River Valley Academy students are eligible for Rockford athletics, co-curricular activities, KCTC, and dual enrollment. The smaller environment and low student to staff ratio ensures every student the opportunity to succeed. River Valley Academy is accredited by AdvancEd.

Rockford Virtual

From its creation in 2020 to meet the needs of Rockford students and families during the Covid-19 Pandemic, Rockford Virtual has evolved to serve our high school students by providing flexibility and support on the path towards a Rockford High School diploma, while maintaining educational rigor. Rockford Virtual students are eligible for Rockford athletics, co-curricular activities, KCTC, and dual enrollment.  Students may take advantage of a hybrid schedule, by taking some courses in person at the Rockford Freshman Center or Rockford High School, and some classes online through Rockford Virtual.  Rockford Public Schools are committed to providing the best possible education for every student, every day, in every space, including students working virtually!

Rockford Adult Education

Mission Statement: Rockford Adult Education exists to facilitate success and spread hope to the greater Rockford community, one life and one family at a time, exercising compassion and flexibility in meeting the needs of adult learners to help them overcome obstacles, accomplish goals, and build new opportunities.  

 

Located in the River Valley Academy wing of the Rockford Administration Building, Rockford Adult Education provides adults in northern Kent county the opportunity to earn a Rockford High School diploma, to improve their English language skills, and/or to study for the GED.  Classes run nightly during the school year and weekly in the summer.  In-person and online classes are available. Participants work at their own pace with the support of Rockford teachers to complete course work. This free program provides busy adults the opportunity to achieve their educational and career goals.
